Noble Global Nobel

I continue to fume about misinformation found in climate change articles.

This morning, I hit this one: “Meanwhile, Gore, who won a Nobel Peace Prize for his climate change research, continues to urge congress to pass global warming reforms.”

Wrong.

For the record, Nobelprize.org said Gore shared the 2007 Peace Prize with the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) “for their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man-made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change.”

As far as I know, Gore’s never done ANY climate change research. How could he? He’s NOT a scientist, but, like many well educated laymen, he’s capable of grasping the major concepts.

On the other hand, the IPCC reviewed the research of hundreds of teams of scientists from many countries. All of whom, if we are to believe the this comment from Filibuster Soup, were plotting to raise our taxes: “I wish people would realize that this ‘Global Warming’ is nothing more than a scam to collect more taxes.”

I’ll bet folks like this person don’t know what our current carbon dioxide readings are. You do, right? Come on, what is it? 200? 450? Whatever it is, should we worry?

Why are so many scientists worried about the RATE of change? Change is normal, right? In fact, most Americans think faster equals better. So faster change would be good, right?

What is the difference between the weather and the climate? Are you someone who says, hey, there’s an ice storm in Kentucky! It’s snowing in London! Not to worry!

Do you ever wonder why scientists call it it climate change, not global warming?

Probably not.

At least not if you’re one of the many who believe that the left is plotting to undermine capitalism, that the majority of scientists* in the 1970s thought we were going into a cooling phase, and that carbon dioxide cannot be a pollutant.

If you are, I wish you well. In fact, you are correct. Carbon dioxide is as necessary as salt is. Now go drink some sea water; it’s good for you.

Cassandra

*Come to think of it, if you are a doubter, you won’t want to read this article from the journal American Meteorological Society. It was peer-reviewed by scientists, and it’s obvious all those nasty scientists just want to raise your taxes.
